Of fruits & geometric shapes

As we mature, so does our style (skanks not included). And I’m not talking about moving on to big frumpy clothes! Mmhmmh! I’m talking about elevating your style. You can go sexy at any age… At least that’s what I think. You learn your body with time and if you’re  smart, you find out what works for you and you do THAT ;).

Every girl who’s read a magazine has seen one of these but I’m going to do it anyway :p…. Body shapes & dressing for yours. Call it a refresher course. The rules aren’t cast in stone though… I dress like every damn shape. But we’d rather know either way, no?

* The stuff below differs from article to article so I just picked alil from here and there

Hourglass Body Shape
The name says it all. This body shape is curvy in all the right places: bust and booty. It’s pretty much a universal perception of what is womanly and attractive… what we all want

Celebrity Examples: The iconic Marilyn Monroe, Christina Hendricks, Salma Hayek… Talk about bombshells!

Fashion Tip: Pencil skirts in a solid color show of curves and leave much to the imagination—intriguing! Try belted looks to emphasize your small waist.

Circle Body Shape
Commonly called apples, women with a circle body shape have smaller shoulders and hips. They also tend to have slender legs and a slim booty. All fit! Though the fat has to go somewhere… With circles, it’s right smack in the middle: the stomach.

Celebrity Examples: “30-Rock’s” Dianne Wiest, Catherine Zeta Jones. Some celebs fluctuate with this body shape, like Renée Zellweger. Jennifer Hudson went from a circle to hourglass (lucky bitch)!

Fashion Tip: Tops with a wide, scoop neck to show some skin up top, while giving shape.

Triangle Body Shape
This shape has a shapely bottom, with a tinier waist. Triangles are a classic feminine shape. In my next life, I’m coming back as this!!

Celebrity Examples: Tons of actresses and singers, from Jennifer Aniston to Rihanna and J-Lo.

Fashion Tip: Triangles can rock a horizontal striped top and a jacket cropped above the waist, drawing attention above.

Ruler Body Shape
With a ruler, there’s only a tiny bit of a curve at the hips. They mostly have a straight torso, with shoulders that align with the torso.

Celebrity Examples: Jennifer Garner, Natalie Portman and Madonna.

Fashion Tip: Rulers can really play up a blouse with feminine ruffles and skirts with rounded hemlines. Always wear looks that pull in at your waist and release at your hip. A tuxedo jacket with a strong shoulder would work, as would an A-line skirt. Try pairing a sleek button down with a dressy short and a belt (to give the appearance of more of a waist.) Don’t be afraid to show off those legs!

Inverted Triangle Body Shape
Generally, this body is athletic and strong. The broadest part of the body? The shoulders and the chest. The torso and waist are tighter.

Celebrity Examples: Serena Williams and actress Hilary Swank.

*sexy pic of her, no?

Fashion Tip: Inverted triangles can go bold with wide leg pants, which balance out the body.

There you go! Some articles I came across classified ‘petite’ as a shape… I didn’t feature it cause WTF kinda shape is petite??

Anyway, back to the point of this post… Ladies, elevate your style… Get better and for Christ’s sake learn from those bad days. Ask a friend (a real one please, not the haters) what makes you look hot. If you’re all about this dressing for your shape thing, look at what the celebs in your category wear. Have fun with it though!

* when in doubt, you’re welcome 😉
